About Selma Housing Authority

The Selma Housing Authorities (SHA) manage affordable housing units in Selma Alabama, offering low-income families and individuals the opportunity to rent an affordable residence that is decent and sanitary.

Since the establishment of the Selma Housing Authority we have offered subsidized, income-based housing and homeownership opportunities for qualified low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities in Selma Alabama.

The Selma Housing Authority manages several housing programs including Public Housing, Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, both funded by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Working with our Community Partners, Resident Council & Resident Advisory Board, we offer supportive services programs to educate & enhance the life of our Residents. Our goal is to assist each Resident to work toward sustainability.

Affordable housing in Selma and elsewhere means wither rental or owner-occupied housing that costs at or less than 30% of one’s gross income. Subsidized housing means a residence that the government assists in paying for. It can either be all or a portion of the monthly payment, depending on the person’s income.

The SHA’s mission is to provide safe, decent, and sanitary housing conditions for individuals and families. The SHA’s objective is to provide personal, economic, and social upward mobility to provide individuals and families the opportunity to make the transition from subsidized to non-subsidized housing.
